McDreamy's Malibu Home

I have a confession to make... I, along with millions of other women, I'm sure, (and maybe even a few men) love McDreamy. Yes Dr Derek Shepherd, neurosurgeon extraordinaire and one of the reasons I am hooked to the hit show Grey's Anatomy. 

I mean if there was a doctor who looked even remotely like Dr Derek Shepherd in any hospital close to me, I'd be there everyday with some sort of imagined illness! I mean those eyes... and that hair! In the words of Meredith Grey... seriously... seriously!

So I was very happy when I came across this in AD. I love the way this house, designed by the famous Frank Gehry, has been adapted for Patrick Dempsey and his family.It's modern, warm and arty and the sunlight that filters in throughout the home makes it come alive. This house is a happy and relaxed place that is so perfect for a family.

Julianne Moore's West Village Loft

I haven't done a 'celebrity home' post in a while now so I'm absolutely thrilled about this particular one because Julianne Moore is one of my favorite actresses. This Oscar winning actress is always the epitome of style. Even in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, she carries herself with grace and elegance. Something I really admire about her. 

I found these images in Elle Decor and it came as no surprise that the West Village loft that she shares with her husband, Bart Freundlich and their two children, Caleb and Liv, is perfectly in-sync with her persona. Its modern, stylish and has an understated sense of elegance. But it definitely doesn't scream 'movie-star diva' and there is absolutely no in-your-face glamour that's you tend to see in so many Hollywood homes. 

The loft has been styled and revamped by Bart's architect brother, Oliver Freundlich and before anything, it is a home. I really like the simplicity of the spaces within this home. It acts as a perfect foil for the lovey designer pieces of furniture, artwork and pottery. I also love the sense of openness and the light that streams into this loft.

Ellen Pompeo's Hollywood Hills Home

Most of us know her as Meredith Grey on the hit show Grey's Anatomy, and those of us who follow the show, envy her for her luck in ending up with the totally delish McDreamy played by Patrick Dempsey. I have to own up to the fact that I love Grey's Anatomy. I follow it religiously, and have done, since I was doing my MA in the UK. Back then I would lock myself  in my room and, spend an entire day watching episode after episode. The hubby finds my fascination with the show hilarious and rolls his eyes at all the drama and emotion that is so much a part of this show. But I mean seriously, how can you not watch a show that has Patrick Dempsey in it? Seriously? 

So I was really happy when I came across Ellen's home in Elle Decor and wanted to share with all of you.

Here's a look into Ellen and husband Chris Ivery's home, a beautiful 1920s Spanish-style villa in the Hollywood Hills. Designed with the help of interior designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, who has also done actress & singer Cher's home, which I have earlier featured here. 

This home has a lovey earthy appeal, that I would describe as modern country style. The design draws inspiration from the Mediterranean- from areas like Tuscany, the South of France and Morocco, places Ellen loves for their design sensibilities as well as their way of living. This really comes through in the design. Stylish, with an underlying sense of 1920s glamour, this home has a real rustic simplicity and a easy going casualness that I simply adore.

Will Ferrell's Manhattan Loft

You've probably seen him in movies like The Campaign, Land of the Lost, Elf and Superstar. He’s also done numerous stints on Saturday Night Live. If you've seen a Will Ferrell movie, then I’m sure you would agree with me when I say that, based on the characters he portrays, he is not someone one would associate with the word sophistication. However, I was rather surprised, when, while going through AD magazine, I came upon his lovely Manhattan home. Originally a Victorian-era printing factory, the nearly 2,800-square-foot loft is the epitome of contemporary class.

Interior designer, Shawn Henderson has tastefully redone this space to create an open planned, airy looking home that seems to bask in natural light. I love it when buildings are adapted so that they can be reused. The designer has done this beautifully here by carefully preserving architectural details like the original exposed brick surfaces and the cast-iron columns and beams. These elements give the home such character, depth and a story.

I love the way the loft has been furnished by mid-century design pieces teamed with a lot of modern pieces. I also love the art work on the walls. Quirky, colorful and whimsical, the art is perhaps one of the few elements in the house that reflects this actor/comedian’s larger than life onscreen personas.

Cher's Indian Inspired LA Home

I fell upon this article, featuring Cher’s LA home, on the Architectural Digest website while trolling the net for inspiration during a recent bout of designer’s block. 

When I think of Cher, I think of Gothic extravagance, a lot of black, deep scarlet and purples- a lot of over-the-top craziness. So I was rather surprised to see her beautiful home designed by interior designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. 

Cher’s brief, in her own words, were “something ethnic, spicy and romantic” and Martyn delivers exactly that, but in muted tones of creams, ivories, whites and buttery beiges.

This apartment really does have an Indian flavor, but with an underlying sense of contemporary finesse. There is a sense of extravagance, but it is so well balanced by the neutral color palette.
